Zoning Commission to Look at Goodwill Proposal
Company looks to open 'attended donation center' on Route 44

The Zoning Commission will look at an application from Goodwill Industries at its meeting Wednesday night.
The company is looking to open an “attended donation center” at 215 Albany Turnpike (Route 44) in the plaza across from Canton Village. Jon Art Tattoo, Sawyer Martial Arts and Ecobody are currently open in the plaza.
Goodwill needs a special exception as a “Personal Service Business” and a public hearing will be scheduled, likely on Feb. 16.

The business would be open “so people can come in and bring their gently used items,” said Melissa Cwiertniewicz, vice president of marketing for the company. The items would then be sold at the regional stores, which helps the company fufill its mission to “put people back to work,” she said.
Goodwill used to have a donation center a few years ago further up Route 44 where Joni’s Child Care and Preschool is located.

“It was a very successful location,” Cwiertniewicz said. “We got a lot of great quality goods.”
