📰 News we're reading

• Cheshire Students Named SCC Scholar Athletes For Spring 2026 (patch.com) — Local sports fans will be glad to see Cheshire well represented among the Southern Connecticut Conference’s 2026 Spring Scholar Athletes, with Hanan Talipan-Pinedo and Juyeon “Julia” Paek honored for excellence in both academics and athletics. The conference-wide list showcases standout varsity letterwinners maintaining at least a 3.0 GPA across many schools and sports.

• 2 hospitalized after house fire in Hamden (nbcconnecticut.com) — Cheshire firefighters helped Hamden crews battle a fast-moving house fire on Winnett Street Tuesday night that sent two residents to the hospital for smoke inhalation but caused no serious injuries. The older home’s balloon-frame construction let flames spread quickly, but working smoke detectors and a rapid multi-town response kept everyone safe while investigators continue probing the cause.

• CT Girls Lacrosse Coaches Poll (May 20): Darien holds at No. 1 after completing unbeaten regular season (nhregister.com) — Cheshire girls lacrosse earned a mention in this week’s statewide coaches poll, picking up a vote and representation from coach Dan Warburton among the voters. Darien stayed No. 1 after an unbeaten regular season, while Greenwich and Hand were the only teams to move in the top 10 as conference tournaments get underway.
