The Democratic and Republican primary elections featured races for CT Senate and U.S. Congress that included Cheshire and Meriden.

Current State Rep. Jack Fazzino has been declared the winner of Tuesday's Democratic Primary for State Senate in the 13th District over challenger Jim Jinks.

The Connecticut Democratic Party announced in a post on Facebook on Tuesday night that Fazzino will be the Democratic nominee in the November election.

Fazzino, the party-endorsed candidate, faced a challenge from Jinks, who is currently serving his fourth term on the Cheshire Town Council.

Hearst Connecticut Media reported that unofficial results from the Associated Press showed Fazzino leading Jinks 3,157 to 1,841 as of late Tuesday night.

The 13th State Senate District includes parts of Cheshire, Meriden, Middlefield, and Middletown.

Republican Primary Election

Chris Shea won the Republican primary in Connecticut's 5th Congressional District Tuesday, earning the party's nomination to challenge Democratic U.S. Rep. Jahana Hayes in November.

With 20 percent of votes counted, Shea had received 80 percent of the ballots compared with 20 percent for Jonathan De Barros, according to The Associated Press.

The primary pitted Shea, a Cheshire resident, retired Navy SEAL and North Haven firefighter who won the Connecticut Republican Party's endorsement, against De Barros, a Terryville resident who qualified to challenge him for the nomination.
