Officials said the Department of Correction's state school teacher was able to "quickly gain control of the student and remove him from the classroom."

There were no reported injuries to the teacher, the student, or responding staff.

"Our teachers walk into an environment in which the security concerns are evident, yet they continue to show up daily with the belief that education can change a person's future," Interim Commissioner Sharonda Carlos said. "This takes true courage and commitment, and I am grateful that no one was injured."

The incident is being "reviewed to ensure policies and procedures were followed, and to implement changes if and where appropriate in order to prevent a recurrence of a similar event," according to a news release.

The identities of the student and teacher are not being released at this time, according to officials.
