A GoFundMe campaign has been launched in support of Borelli's family.

"Andy was a dedicated police officer and a valued member of our community," a post on the GoFundMe page reads. "He gave his time generously to the town he and his family loved, including his involvement with Cheshire Youth Baseball, Cheshire Junior Football, and Cheshire Basketball. Andy was someone who cared deeply about the people around him and was always willing to give back.

"Above all, Andy was a loving and devoted husband and father. His greatest pride and joy were his two sons, Joseph and Sammy. His sudden loss has left an unimaginable void in the lives of his family, friends, colleagues, and the entire Cheshire community."

Borelli graduated from Mark T. Sheehan High School in Wallingford and earned a degree in history from Norwich University, according to his obituary. He joined the Connecticut State Police shortly after college, and served as a state trooper for 20 years before joining the Prospect Police Department.

"Service was at the heart of who Andy was," the obituary reads. "Whether patrolling his community, helping in the classroom, or coaching his sons and their teammates, he believed that we become our best selves by serving others. Humble, thoughtful, and sincere, Andy touched countless lives and was a role model to his sons, niece, nephews, and friends."

Funeral services will be held on Monday, Aug. 24 at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home in Cheshire. Read the full obituary here.

The GoFundMe campaign has raised more than $16,500 within the first day (as of Friday evening).
