NEW HAVEN, CT — Cheshire native C.J. Moran has been named the next head coach of the Southern Connecticut State University men's and women's swimming & diving programs, Athletic Director Terrance Jones announced Thursday.
Moran becomes just the second head coach to lead the Owls in nearly three decades, succeeding the late, legendary coach Tim Quill, who died in February.
"There is no one more prepared, or more deserving, to lead our swimming and diving family forward than C.J. Moran," Jones said in a news release. "C.J. is an Owl through and through – as a student-athlete, as an alumnus, and as a coach. He learned under Coach Quill, he helped build this dynasty, and he embodies the values of excellence, compassion, and belonging that define Southern."
A four-year letterwinner for the Owls from 1995 to 1999, Moran later returned to Southern as an assistant coach and has helped coach numerous NE10 champions, All-Americans and NCAA qualifiers. He earned his bachelor's degree in social work from Southern.
"I am extremely honored to be chosen as the next head coach of the Southern Swimming and Diving Program," Moran said. "Words cannot even describe how thankful I am for the overwhelming support I have received from my family, friends, SCSU's athletic administration, our current swimmers and divers, and my SCSU Swimming and Diving Alumni family throughout this process."
Moran takes over a program with 35 combined NE10 championships — 17 men's and 18 women's — and will lead the Owls into the 2026-27 season.
