Symbolic and Surreal
Kathleen Zimmerman's symbolic and surreal digitally enhanced drawings are on exhibit at The Funky Monkey, which is located at 130 Elm Street here in Cheshire throughout the month of December. Her work communicates ideas concerning both day-to-day life as well as more profound issues surrounding relationships, stages of life and culture. She uses symbolism and surrealism to transform my subject matter into archetypal images. This gives her work a mythical quality filled with layers of meaning, which both reiterate and challenge age-old ideas. This seriousness of purpose does not stop them from exhibiting a playful of spirit that is a joy to behold.
