Body Of Missing Man Found In Cheshire: Police

The body of a 71-year-old fisherman was pulled from the water shortly after he was reported missing on Friday night, according to police.

CHESHIRE, CT — The body of a 71-year-old man was found in a body of water on Cook Hill Road shortly after the man was reported missing on Friday night, according to police. Cheshire Police were notified of a missing man at about 7:50 p.m. after he had left his home at about 5:30 p.m. to go fishing.

The man’s vehicle was found at the New Departure Rod and Gun Club, which is located on Cook Hill Rd in Cheshire, according to Lt. Jeffrey Sutherland. The New Departure Rod and Gun Club is approximately 35.8 acres in size and the terrain is covered with trees and a body of water. (To sign up for Cheshire breaking news alerts and more, click here.)

Sutherland said the Cheshire Fire Department responded to the scene to assist with the search for the missing man and a K-9 track from the man’s vehicle led to the body of water.

Members of the Region 5 Dive Team from the Middlebury Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene to assist with the search of the body of water.

“The missing man’s body was discovered a short time later within the body of water,” Sutherland said in a press release. “At this time, we are withholding the name of the deceased to provide time for the family to make notifications.”
