What's a CSA?

CSA stands for “Community Shared/Supported Agriculture.” It’s a way for the community to learn where their produce comes from, to take part in its growth and harvest, and ultimately to bring people together to share wholesome, tasty food.

A CSA is a limited partnership in which individuals purchase “shares” of the harvest in advance and sometimes provide labor, depending on the particular CSA model.  This enables the farmer to buy seeds, equipment, and pay other production costs before the planting begins. In exchange, members receive a periodic “share-out” of fresh produce, with specific items and quantities determined by the extent of the harvest. CSA members also learn how the food is grown, how the farm works, and how variables like rainfall, insects, and weather affect the crops. When the bounty is good, share-outs are larger; conversely, a tough growing season will mean less food.

Our CSA

Bodhichitta Farms is located in Prospect but distributes produce around the greater New Haven area.  Our CSA has seasonal shares, the next being the 2013 winter/spring share. It begins February 2013 with fresh produce and maple syrup and continues through May with early spring vegetables and whatever might overwinter like the carrots and parsnips.  This is our fourth season and we are looking forward to deliveries in Bethany, Cheshire, and at the City Seed Edgewood Park Winter Market.
