Social isolation and loneliness are recognized as a population-level public health crisis with measurable impacts on morbidity, mortality, and health equity. In 2023, the U.S. Surgeon General declared social isolation and loneliness a national epidemic, urging healthcare systems to address social connection as a core determinant of health. Dr. Perrin's presentation will examine the causes and health consequences of loneliness as well as highlight Connecticut’s coordinated statewide response through the Connecticut Collaborative to End Loneliness. Attendees will be introduced to the key elements of this response, including screening, social prescribing, and learner engagement, all designed to integrate social health into primary care education and community partnerships.
