I have a local story idea as fall sports kick off.
I'm a Cheshire, CT sports parent and youth coach. After many Saturdays at away fields discovering a locked — or genuinely alarming — restroom, I built Sportopotty (sportopotty.app): a free, crowd-sourced map where parents rate the bathrooms at fields, pitches and complexes before they leave the driveway.
Search a town or park, and you'll see what's waiting: a 0-to-5 rating, whether there's toilet paper, and whether the door is even unlocked. It's free, works in any phone browser, and there's no app to download.
With football, travel soccer, fall ball and field hockey all starting at once, families are driving to unfamiliar fields every weekend. My goal is enough Connecticut fields rated this season that nobody gets surprised.

Plants have evolved a remarkable set of strategies to protect themselves. Plants can also warn each other about impending danger. In this presentation, Dr. Christopher will reveal the tools plants use to thwart predators and save themselves! Presenter bio: Dr. Dorothy Christopher is a biology professor at Western Connecticut State University, where she teaches courses on plant ecology and evolution. Dorothy's research focuses on plant-pollinator interactions, with particular attention to how these critical relationships are affected by climate change.
