Car Burglaries, Thefts Increase In Cheshire: Police
Police are asking for the public's assistance in combating the recent crime wave.

CHESHIRE, CT — With car burglaries and thefts from residences on the rise, Cheshire Police are asking for the public’s assistance with combating the recent crime wave. Police say they are taking actions to address the issue, and are asking residents to lock cars in driveways and garages, remove all valuables overnight, and remove and store car keys in a secure place.
“This is a crime of opportunity,” Cheshire Police Chief Neil Dryfe said in a press release. “We want to make Cheshire a less attractive target.”
Town Manager Sean Kimball agreed, saying “This is happening in communities throughout the state.”

“Groups of youths are entering neighborhoods and quickly checking for unlocked cars for access to potential valuables,” Kimball said. “If the keys are in the car, they often steal the vehicle. The preventive actions of our police department combined with increased awareness and vigilance by our residents will help stop these thefts.”
Town Council Chairman Rob Oris said the Town Council supports the Police Department’s efforts.
