Cheshire Advances To CIAC Class LL Championship Game With Thrilling Semifinal Victory

The defending state champions are heading back to the Class LL final after beating Darien in extra innings in the semifinals.

CHESHIRE, CT — The Cheshire softball team is heading to its third straight CIAC Class LL championship game after a thrilling 1-0 victory in 12 innings over fourth-seeded Darien in the semifinals on Tuesday at West Haven High School.

Senior Ava Pearson sent the Rams, the defending Class LL champion, back to the title game with a game-winning single to score Olivia Rydzy in the bottom of the 12th, according to GameTimeCT.

Cheshire ace Jenica Matos held Darien to only two hits over 12 innings while striking out 26 to lead the Rams.

Cheshire, the tournament’s No. 1 seed, will face second-seeded Southington in the championship game on Saturday, June 13 at Burrill Family Field at UConn at a time to be determined.
