Cheshire BOE Trims Staff Following Budget Cut: Report
The school board recently approved cutting several positions after the town cut the superintendent's funding request by around $960,000.
CHESHIRE, CT — The Cheshire Board of Education recently approved cutting several positions from the 2020-21 school budget after the town allocated around $960,000 less than Superintendent of Schools Jeff Solan requested, according to the Meriden Record-Journal.
The Town Council recently adopted a budget that kept the tax rate flat at 33.22 mills, which required cutting the funding requests for most departments.
The Record-Journal reports the school board unanimously approved Solan’s proposal of cutting two teaching positions at Dodd Middle School and an instructional assistant position at Cheshire High School. There were also line item cuts and a few teacher resignations and retirements have saved the district about $10,000 per teacher, according to the Record-Journal.
