Cheshire Celebrates Crown Despite Loss

The Cheshire American Legion baseball team claimed the Zone III title on Thursday night.

Despite losing to Middletown for the second straight night, the Cheshire American Legion baseball team had reason to celebrate on Thursday.

Just hours after suffering a 1-0 loss, Cheshire claimed the Zone III crown as a result of Wallingford’s 4-2 loss to Berlin.

Middletown (15-8) won a pitchers’ duel by pushing across the lone run of the game in the sixth inning.

Cheshire’s Kyle Waldron worked out of trouble all night, stranding nine runners and finishing with eight strikeouts but three Middletown pitchers (Ben Gilliland, Jared Pflaumer and Nick Roy) combined on the shutout.
