CHESHIRE, CT — The 2023 municipal election is heating up in Cheshire with plenty of races on the ballot.

Voters will head to the polls Tuesday, Nov. 7 and cast their ballots for seats on the Town Council, Board of Education, Planning and Zoning Commission and more.

Cheshire Patch asked candidates to answer questions about their campaigns and will be publishing candidate profiles as election day draws near.

What is your occupation?

Lawyer - Admitted to the Bar in 1977

Do you have a family? If so, please tell us about them.

Married to Paullette, Children - Jill, Joseph, Amy

Does anyone in your family work in politics or government?

I am a lawyer with the Connecticut Department of Education

Have you ever held a public office, whether appointive or elective?

Cheshire Planning and Zoning Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals - Total 25 years

Now we'd like to ask a few questions about your reasons for running and your general views on politics and government. First, why are you seeking this office?

I believe in public service. I want to contribute to the general welfare of the community.

Please complete this statement: The single most pressing issue facing my constituents is \_\_\_, and this is what I intend to do about it.

The central issue for the Town Council is maintaining public safety, good schools, and other town services at a reasonable cost. I will pay attention to cost and promote economic development to help pay for the services.

What are the major differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?

I have 25 years of experience in town government through service on the Planning and Zoning Commission and the Zoning Board of Appeals.

What other issues do you intend to address during your campaign?

Listening. If elected, I will answer calls, respond to messages, and set aside a time every month at a convenient location to meet with constituents to learn their needs, ideas, and points of view.

What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?

My service on Cheshire's land use commissions where it is necessary to listen to persons with differing interests, evaluate the evidence, and come to the best decision.

What is the best advice anyone ever gave you?

When he dropped me off at college many years (decades) ago, my father said to stay away from drugs. It was good advice.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about yourself and your positions?

I believe that we need to have respect for the democratic process and try to lead through persuasion, consensus building, and respect for others.
