The single biggest issue in town is ______, and I plan to do this about it:

Our school district faces the challenge of meeting facility needs as our student population continues to grow and learning needs change to adapt to state and national requirements. Our schools are going to require a major investment in infrastructure to not only ensure the safety and well-being of our students but provide them with a facility that meets the needs of a 21st-century learning environment. We have world-class students; why not give them a world-class environment conducive to their learning needs. As a community, we must ensure that every child is provided with an engaging educational environment that encourages individual growth and learning. We need to work together to enhance student outcomes by reviewing school curriculum needs and creation of a streamlined plan for implementation that is collaborative, transparent, and communicated appropriately to parents and stakeholders.

Critical differences between me and my opponents:

With my years of being a citizen in town and experience with my own children going through the school system as well as someone who was once a classroom teacher and now a district administrator, I am able to contribute my time and expertise through several lenses and perspectives. Given that I have a financial background, I understand what it means to make sure that our decisions are fiscally responsible and make sense based on what we need to grow as a community.

Accomplishments:

Sam is an educator who has spent over 10 years teaching in Bridgeport Public Schools and Stratford Public Schools in various grades, school models, and currently a district administrator overseeing the growth of math and science curriculum and instruction for Stratford Public Schools. Prior to serving in education, she was a Financial Services Manager for a local banking institution for 13 years. She is an active member of Temple Beth David and currently serves as the treasurer for the Cheshire Education Foundation.

AWARDS/HONORS:

2018 Connecticut Science Teachers: Excellence in Elementary Science Teaching Award

2018 Stratford Teacher of the Year

2017 Stratford C.A.R.E. (Citizens Addressing Racial Equity) Award

2014 & 2017 Nominee: Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching

Other issues:

*Promote the health, safety, and well-being of our student population especially during
these trying times.

* Ensure every child is provided an engaging educational environment that encourages individual growth and learning.

*Enhance student outcomes by reviewing curriculum needs and creating a streamlined plan for implementation that is collaborative, transparent, and and communicated appropriately to parents and stakeholders.

What else would you like voters to know about you?

As a parent, educator, and volunteer, I know the importance of good schools and a quality education. I am committed to serving our community and using my professional expertise and experience to bring a compassionate, collaborative, and forward thinking style to our school board.
