Cheshire Football Rolls Past Ridgefield in Season Opener

Andrew Yamin runs for 221 yards and two touchdowns, while QB Josh MacNiven throws three touchdowns to lead Rams.

The Cheshire football team opened the 2014 season in fine fashion, rolling past Ridgefield 41-14 in the SCC-FCIAC Challenge Wednesday at the Maclary Complex in Cheshire.

Senior Andrew Yamin ran for 221 yards and two touchdowns, while senior quarterback Josh MacNiven threw three touchdown passes for the Rams, who were without Tucker Ecke (who was projected to be the starting quarterback) and Jack Cunningham (the team’s top returning running back) to potentially season-ending injuries, according to GameTimeCT.com.

Cheshire will look to make it two in a row when it travels to Wallingford next Friday night (Sept. 19) to take on Lyman Hall.

Yamin hopes the Rams will build on Wednesday’s win, which he described as a “must-win” to Mike Pucci of the New Haven Register/GameTimeCT and said “Since the beginning of the preseason we knew this was a game we had to get. It set the tone for the season.”
