Cheshire Local Coronavirus Tax Relief Programs
The Cheshire Town Council recently approved tax deferral and low-interest programs for residents & taxpayers during the coronavirus pandemic
CHESHIRE, CT — (From the Town of Cheshire): Effectively immediately any real property, personal property, and motor vehicle tax bills that are due on July 1, 2020 will not be considered delinquent until after October 1, 2020 per an Executive Order by Governor Lamont and approval by the Cheshire Town Council.
This deferral program seeks to provide additional relief on interest and penalties by extending the grace period for property taxes for those impacted by COVID-19.

• Real estate accounts in escrow and paid by a bank are not eligible for this program
• No application is necessary for taxpayers including businesses, with the exception of landlords.

Property Tax Deferment Application (Landlords Only)
To be considered for a property tax deferment as a residential or commercial landlord, download the application form. Complete and return the application with supporting documentation to wdonlin@cheshirect.org.
Sewer & Water Assessments Due May 1, 2020 Now Payable Through August 1, 2020
Effectively immediately any sewer or water assessment bill that is due on May 1, 2020 will not be considered delinquent until after August 1, 2020 per an Executive Order by Governor Lamont and approval by the Cheshire Town Council.
This deferral program seeks to provide additional relief on interest and penalties for those impacted by COVID-19 by extending the grace period to pay sewer and water assessments by 30 days. August 1, 2020 is now the last day to pay without interest.
No application is necessary.
Low Interest Rate Program
Effectively immediately this program reduces the rate of interest that is charged on a delinquent or past due local tax bill. Interest is normally charge at the rate of 1.5% per month, or 18 % per year from the due date of the tax, with a portion of a month being considered a full month. The Low Interest Rate Program lowers the rate of interest to 0.25% per month, or 3%per year, from the due date of the tax, for a period of 90 days.
This reduced interest rate program is applicable to delinquent payments during the 90-day period from April 1, 2020 through July 1, 2020.
