Cheshire Native Brad Ausmus Interviews for Red Sox Manager Job

Brad Ausmus has a long career in professional baseball — including playing and managing — stretching back to 1993.

And now, the Cheshire native and current assistant general manager for the San Diego Padres is in the running for a job as manager of the Boston Red sox.

According to Boston.com, Ausmus interviewed for the role on Wednesday. The news site, managed by The Boston Globe, said he was “the smartest man in the room and should be impressive when grilled by the Sox hiring team.”

Ausmus, 43, has had prior managerial experience on the Detroit Tigers, Houston Astros and the Los Angeles Dodgers, according to a profile of him on WEEI.com.

If the Sox go with Ausmus, he will replace another Connecticut native, Stamford’s Bobby Valentine, who was fired from his job as manager earlier this month.
