Cheshire Police Release DUI Checkpoint Results
Police conducted a DUI Safety and Sobriety Checkpoint during Thanksgiving weekend.

Cheshire Police have released results of their DUI Safety and Sobriety Checkpoint that was conducted during Thanksgiving Weekend.
The checkpoint was conducted Nov. 27 on Waterbury Road near the entrance to I-84 and was situated to target westbound traffic only, according to police.
Police said nearly 1,000 cars passed through the checkpoint between 6:45 p.m. and 1 a.m. and 249 cars were randomly stopped, utilizing an interval of every fourth car.

The results of the enforcement taken by checkpoint officers are as follows:
- One infraction for the use of drug paraphernalia in conjunction with less than one-half ounce of a cannabis-type substance.
- One misdemeanor summons for expired registration and failure to meet insurance requirements.
- Seven infractions for seat belt violations.
- 17 warnings for motor vehicle equipment violations.
Police also said that one motorist was stopped after it was observed that a child less than 1 year old was not in a proper rear-facing car seat.

The operator was provided a new car seat in compliance with legal and industry standard and it was installed roadside by a checkpoint officer who is a certified car seat technician, according to police.
The operator/parent was provided instruction on how to utilize the safety seat and issued a warning for the stop.
Police said this was the last scheduled safety and sobriety checkpoint for the winter holiday season, however, there are roving DUI patrols scheduled throughout the winter months.
