Police are warning residents of a scam in which the caller claims to be a member of local law enforcement.

CHESHIRE, CT — Cheshire police are warning residents of a phone scam in which the caller claims to be a member of local law enforcement.

Police said numerous residents throughout Connecticut have reported receiving calls from “malicious actors” posing as local law enforcement, such as an officer, sheriff, marshal, captain or lieutenant.

“In the typical phone call scenario, the callers have been advising the individuals of a warrant for their arrest,” police wrote in a news release. “The caller then states that the charges will be dismissed if the individual pays a fine.”
