Cheshire Police Warn Residents of Vehicle Break-Ins
Cheshire Police remind residents to take the necessary precautions to prevent thefts from motor vehicles.

CHESHIRE, CT — Cheshire Police are reminding residents to take necessary steps to help prevent vehicle break-ins, which have continued to increase in Cheshire and communities throughout the state.
Police said the majority of the thefts from motor vehicles occur during the overnight hours, but they also occur at all times throughout the day.
“These thefts from motor vehicles continue to be a crime of opportunity,” police said in a press release. “The perpetrators of these crimes are looking for motor vehicles with: unsecure doors, windows left down, valuables in sight, keys in vehicle.”

Cheshire Police remind residents to do the following:
- Bring in valuables from the vehicle during the overnight hours.
- Lock vehicles when not in use.
- Not leave valuables in sight when parked in public or private areas.
- Not leave keys, or ignition fobs, in the vehicle whether the vehicle is locked or unlocked.
“While the Cheshire Police Department will continue to investigate these crimes, we are asking for everyone’s assistance in preventing the occurrence of this crime,” police said.
