Cheshire SportsBeat: Six Cheshire Runners in Marathon

Six Cheshire runners competed in the Boston Marathon on Monday. Here are their names and stats:

With the temperatures reaching the upper 80's, Cheshire runners joined more than 22,000 others who competed in the 116th Boston Marathon on Monday. More than 3,000 marathon runners didn't even bother to show up because of the heat and hundreds more had to retire early because they were overcome by the high temperatures.

Wesley Korir (2:12:40) and Sharon Cherop (2:31:40) pulled off the sweep for the Kenyans.

Michael Dolan of Hamden (3:03:25) and Blake Benke of Westport (3:03:30) posted the fastest times from Fairfield and New Haven Counties for the men's division. Amanda King of New Haven and Lauren Greig of New Canaan (3:29:34) turned in the fastest times among women from the area. New Canaan had 10 runners complete the marathon, with Nicholas Sykes, who is just 21, clocking a time of 3:17:09.

, 71, completed his 26th marathon and third in Boston. Less than eight months after suffering a heart attack, Deiters finished the event with a time of 5:37:51.
