Cheshire Woman Accused of Smuggling Drugs to Incarcerated Son

The 65-year-old woman is due in court next month to answer to the charges.

A 65-year-old Cheshire woman is due in court on Jan. 11 to answer to charges that she allegedly smuggled narcotics to her son while he was incarcerated at the New Haven Correctional Center, according to the Meriden Record-Journal.

The Record-Journal reports Valerie Gambardella, of 140 Willow St., was arrested on a warrant Oct. 28 after Department of Correction officials intercepted four envelopes with suboxone hidden inside and State Police launched an investigation. Suboxone is a narcotic used to treat opiate addiction.

When questioned by State Police, Gambardella said she didn’t know there were drugs in the envelopes, which also contained family photos, according to the Record-Journal.
