Cheshire's Emma Farrel Lifts SCSU Field Hockey to Victory in Final Minute

Farrel, a freshman, scored the lone goal of the game with 1:30 left in regulation to beat Mercy.

Cheshire’s Emma Farrel, a freshman on the Southern Connecticut State University field hockey team, lifted the Owls to a 1-0 victory over Mercy by scoring the game-winning goal with only 1 minute, 30 seconds left in regulation Wednesday in Dobbs Ferry, New York.

Farrel was assisted by Branford’s Colleen Murphy on the winning score.

Southern improved to 2-6 with the win, while Mercy dropped to 0-10.

Owls’ goalie Audrey Dolloff (Raynham, Mass.) stopped five shots to earn the shutout and the victory.

SCSU was outshot 12-8 and out cornered, 10-7, in the game, but it was Farrel’s second goal of the year that proved to be the difference.

The Owls are back in action on Monday for a road game at LIU-Post.
