Cheshire's Emma Farrel Records First Collegiate Hat Trick in SCSU Victory (Video)

Farrel, a freshman, scored all three goals in the Owls' win over Southern New Hampshire.

Cheshire’s Emma Farrel, a freshman on the Southern Connecticut State University women’s field hockey team, registered her first collegiate hat trick in a first-half span of 3 minutes, 27 seconds as the Owls posted a 3-2 victory over Southern New Hampshire Wednesday night in Manchester, N.H.

The Owls improved to 3-14 overall and 1-9 in Northeast-10 Conference play. SNHU is 1-16 and 0-10.

The Penmen opened the scoring with a goal from Kaitlyn Ramsey just under 8 minutes into play. SNHU held the lead for most of the first half until the Owls unloaded a quick scoring barrage to take the lead for good.

Farrel tied the game on a goal that came off a penalty corner. Bailey McGinnis (of North Branford) passed to Zoe Fanolis (Hamden) in the middle of the circle, who passed to Farrel along the goal line. Farrel then tucked a shot just inside the post to tie the score.

The Owls took the lead for good just 1:56 later on Farrel’s second of the night. Alicia Morgan (Stafford) fed Cheshire’s Lauren Anderson, who made a pass down low to Farrel for the goal.

Farrel capped the hat trick just 91 seconds later when she knocked in a feed from Fanolis.
