Cheshire's Kyle Bishop Claims State Open Titles

The Rams finished fifth as a team in the State Open.

Fresh off winning two individual events at the Class LL state championship, Cheshire junior Karl Bishop followed suit with two victories at Saturday’s State Open.

Bishop won the 200 freestyle in 1:41.44 and then tied Staples’ Daniel Williams for first in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:35.61.

“It feels great to win and be a State Open champion,” Bishop told Mike Pucci of GameTimeCT.com/New Haven Register. “I never thought that in the 200. I thought maybe — maybe — in the 500 when I came in freshman year. I didn’t even make this meet freshman year — too fast. The 200, I never even thought I would win. Today I knew it was possible, but not when I first started.”
