Cheshire's Matt Burns Earns Academic All-District Honors at SCSU

Cheshire’s Matt Burns, a redshirt junior outfielder on the Southern Connecticut State University baseball team, was named a First-Team Academic All-District selection by Capital One and the College Sports Information Directors of America on Thursday.

Burns now advances to the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration.

The Owls’ leadoff hitter put together another fine season on the diamond and in the classroom. He earned All-Conference honors after ranking fourth in the league in stolen bases (28), 10th in hits (53) and triples (3), 11th in batting average (.356), 14th in runs (34), 16th in doubles (11) and on-base percentage (.409) and 17th in slugging percentage (.490).

Burns is a history major with a 3.48 cumulative grade-point average.
