Cheshire's Matt Burns Earns Honors for Banner Week with SCSU Baseball

Burns was named the NE-10 Conference Player of the week and also recognized by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

Cheshire’s Matt Burns, a redshirt junior on the Southern Connecticut State University baseball team, was named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) East Region Hitter of the Week, for his work at the plate in the Owls’ four games over the weekend.

On Monday, Burns was also named the Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Week.

Burns batted .500 (8-for-16) and had a .556 on-base percentage in the SCSU’s four weekend games. He scored seven runs, had six RBIs, two walks and stole seven bases. He also added a pair of triples and a solo home run. He went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and four steals against Mercy, before going 3-for-6 with two RBIs versus Nyack in the team’s two wins over the weekend.

Southern is scheduled to return to the diamond this Saturday at noon to take on Merrimack.
