THE CHS GIRLS VARSITY & JUNIOR VARSITY CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS WIN 2ND PLACE AT THE 34TH WILTON CROSS COUNTRY INVITATIONAL ON SEPTEMBER 8, 2023.

The Lady Rams Varsity Cross Country Team began winning again just like 2022 by taking second place at the 34th Wilton Cross Country Invitational. They won 2nd Place with a score of 113. New Canaan was first with 98 points and Glastonbury was third with 142.

The top finisher was senior Tri-Captain Alexa Ciccone finishing six with a time of 15:30.1. Head Coach Rob Schaefer was pleased with Alexa Ciccone’s finish and his team, “Alexa runs off the charts. If you look at the next six runners, they are all just about within a minute of each other. That is a strong team,” stated Schaefer.

She was followed by her teammates #20 Mia Vientos 16:44.6, #28 Emily D’Souza 17:08.6, 29. Sage Falcon 17:17.7, #31 Eva Curran 17:18.9, #40 Ava Ciccone 17:40.9, #52. Sarah Curran 18:02.3, & # 90 Alexa Tirado.

Schaefer commented about his two senior athletes “Alexa Ciccone and Mia Vientos are two seasoned veterans who are great leaders on and off the field. They set the mold for the other to follow. We are so fortunate to have them on our team.” He is optimistic about his team this season by stating, “We have two races under in the books so far this season, the New Haven Road Race and the Wilton Invitational. I am so excited about our chances this season. I know it is early, but we can do some magic this year if we stay healthy, train hard, and compete with determination.”

Alexa Ciccone was selected for the second consecutive year as the “25 CIAC Girls Cross Country Runners To Watch During The 2023 Season” according to CT Insider.com. She won first place in the annual New Haven Labor Day Faxon Road Race on September 4th with a time of 17:51

On the JV side this team also won 2nd Place with a score of 79. The top finisher was CHS Julia Gonzalez with a time of 18:44.90. Abby Cortigiano was second with a time 18:47.70 followed by Jocelyn Grace 19:06.70, and Kathleen Hall time 19:42.50. The next event for the CHS Girls Cross Country Team will be a home meet at Cheshire Park on Tuesday, September 12th against Guilford, Sacred Heart & Wilbur Cross. Race Time 4 p.m.
