The Cheshire High School Girls Cross Country proved once again they are the best female area runners around. They captured 4th place with a score of 94 at the CIAC Cross Country Divisional Championships at Wickham Park in Manchester on October 29, 2022. The Lady Rams finished behind 1st Place New Milford-50, 2nd Place New Canaan-68, & 3rd Place E.O. Smith-90. Prior to Saturday’s meet in Manchester Head Coach Rob Schaefer stated, “My best hopes for Saturday - being realistic - is that we make a strong showing in the Class L race and finish in the top 5. We are underdogs to New Canaan, EO Smith.” His prediction was right on the money and the Rams did make the Top 5 Teams. Not only that two of his athletes Alexa Ciccone & Mia Vientos made the All State Team again at Saturday’s meet; Ciccone finished #2 & Vientos finished #12. Schaefer stated “Two All Staters is a coach’s dream.”

He commented further, “I am so happy for our team. This is one of Cheshire’s strongest showings in years. Alexa Ciccone sets the tone as a leader; she makes everyone else want to run faster….and they do. I always say that when a team makes the State Open, it’s a great year. To be one of the top twenty teams in Connecticut is no small feat. I am so proud of our girls that they qualified this year. We are still a young team. Our top five is composed of two juniors, one sophomore, and two freshmen. To accomplish this much and be so young is amazing. Eva Curran really helped us today. She ran a full minute faster today than she did in this race last year. That sealed the deal for us.”

The next event for the CHS Girls Cross Country Team will be the CIAC State Open Championship on Friday, November 4, 2022 at Manchester’s Wickham Park. Race Time 2 p.m.
