Congregation Kol Ami Announces Director Appointment

Congregation Kol Ami at 1484 Highland Ave., is pleased to announce the appointment of Limor Shefer as Director of the Religious School.  

Limor was born in Israel and raised in Bat-Yam. Ever since she was a child, she always had a passion for teaching. In high school, Limor studied art, graphic design, sculpture, and photography. Her hobbies included ballet, ice-skating, roller-skating, windsurfing, and tennis. 

When Limor was 16, she won the Israeli National Championship and later, earned a coaching certificate for roller-skating and ice-skating from Vingait Institute. She served in the Israeli Army during the Gulf War and was recognized for performance in computer graphic skills. In 1991, she joined the professional ice skating show called Holiday on Ice and performed with the company on a world tour.

Ms. Shefer arrived to the United States in 1994 and started coaching ice-skating in various rinks throughout Connecticut. She competed in the U.S. Open Challenge Cup and became a member of the PSA, the Professional Skating Association of the United States.

 At the same time, Limor started teaching Religious School as a first grade teacher in Hebrew. The curriculum included Hebrew reading and writing, prayers, Jewish holidays and customs, and Israeli culture. She continued teaching various age groups as well as preparing students for their Bar/Bat Mitzvah.

Ms. Shefer has been teaching at Kol Ami, Cheshire, CT and Ezra Academy in Woodbridge, CT as a Hebrew and Judaic teacher up to the present time. The curriculum includes: reading and writing Hebrew, prayers, Jewish holidays and customs, Israeli culture, the weekly Parashah, and Havdalah and Shabbat programs for grades 3 and 4.

 In the years 2008-2009, Limor also served as the Jewish Community Center Drama Director for their summer camp. She was the Athletic Director for the Woodbridge, CT Recreational Camp for the years 2012 and 2013 for Pre-K and K.

Ms. Shefer will begin this school year, 2013-2014 as Director of the Religious School. From Limor, “the Kol Ami community and I have been working very closely to create a new and exciting program; as well as music, family and community events, cooking, and art.  I am honored to become Religious School Director”.

This year, Kol Ami Religious School is offering a free/ no charge policy for the Religious School for students entering Pre-K, K and 1st grade.  Synagogue membership is not required. The School includes students from Pre K through Bar/Bat Mitzvah; teaching comprehensive studies; community and life experiences.
