Construction on Cheshire Pool Roof Falls Behind Schedule

With recent delays to the project, officials are debating whether or not to open the pool this summer.

In the ongoing saga of the Cheshire Community Pool, recent delays have pushed construction of a tension membrane roof four weeks behind schedule and officials are debating whether or not to open the pool this summer.

Luther Turmelle of the New Haven Register reports more than 50 residents packed the Town Council chambers Tuesday night for an update on the project from the council, Public Building Commission and Pool Oversight Committee.

Among the reasons for the construction day include issues with the design of the foundation to support the permanent roof and the project doesn’t meet the necessary energy efficiency standards under the state’s building code, according to Turmelle.

Town Council Chairman Tim Slocum told the Cheshire Citizen that he won’t bring a motion at the next council meeting to reopen the pool before construction is complete. Slocum said there is too much uncertainty over when construction would begin and the work and cost of opening the pool might be wasted if it needs to be closed again for construction.
