Bat Chat at the Library

Bats have occupied our planet for fifty million years yet we have only seriously studied them over the last six decades!

The guest speaker, Geraldine Griswold, is Director of Administration and Development at White Memorial Conservation Center in Litchfield, CT, the largest wildlife sanctuary in Connecticut.  Griswold is a wildlife rehabilitator who specializes in bats.

Connecticut is home to eight different types of bats.  Bats play an important role in our planet's ecosystem.  They are the number one controller of night flying insects worldwide. In addition, they are primary pollinators and seed dispersers.

Ms. Griswold often brings live bats to her presentations, depending upon conditions.

Through Q&A, a brief powerpoint presentation, and the help of a live Big Brown bat, we’ll explore biology, ecology, sonar, and cultural highs and lows of these extraordinary creatures.
