The Girl in the Freudian Slip is a sophisticated comedy written by William F. Brown. In this play, a New York psychiatrist has a fashion designer wife, a perceptive teenage daughter, a bachelor author for a friend, and a wildly hung up young man as his principle patient. He also has "a thing" for a former patient, a sexually emancipated woman, who wrestled with nymphomania on the doctor's couch for three years and still inhabits his subconscious. He tries to overcome his secret yearnings using "psychodrama" until unforeseen circumstances throw him into a cozy confrontation with this woman. Free from the restrictions of a doctor/patient relationship, he finds himself face to face with some very tempting moments.
There are 3 male roles. Dr Dewey Maugham is an average-looking man, who is middle-aged but resisting it. He is a little studious yet gives the impression of a country doctor. Mr. Wellman is one of Dr Maugham's patients. He is in his early 20's and carries a tremendous burden of self-doubt and fear of rejection. Dr Alec Rice is another psychiatrist and a family friend of the Maugham's. He is also middle-aged but seems younger, charming, and very confident.
