Cheshire Historical Society Fall Program

The Cheshire Historical Society presents:

“Memphremagog or Bust! The Connecticut River Company, the Farmington Canal, and their Battle for the Upper Connecticut River”, by Richard DeLuca on Monday, September 24, 7:30 p.m.

Historian and transportation engineer Richard DeLuca of Cheshire will discuss the construction of the Farmington Canal and the competition between the Farmington Canal and the Enfield Canal companies for trade on the upper river.  His talk will be drawn from his book, mentioned above, which will be available at the Society that night.  Also available will be his new book Post Road & Iron Horses: Transportation in Connecticut from Colonial Times to the Age of Steam.

His lecture should prove fascinating, providing new insight into the building of and the commercial and social aspect of the Canal.  The presentation should last about 45 - 50 minutes and there will be a Q&A period afterward.

The public is welcome and we look forward to meeting any and all newcomers to the Cheshire Historical Society.  (Membership is NOT required).
