Firefighters Make Special Delivery on Highway for Cheshire Family

In case you missed it from earlier this week...

North Haven firefighters helped Darrin Robert Yardley Jr. make a grand entrance into the world, delivering the Cheshire baby in a hospital-bound fire truck on I-91 South early Easter morning.

Darrin and Melanie Yardley of Cheshire are the proud parents of Darrin Jr., who was delivered by North Haven firefighters Michael Pomichter, Ronald Prisco and firefighter/paramedic Richard Filosi at 1:37 a.m. on the way to Yale-New Haven Hospital, according to the North Haven Professional Fire Fighters Union’s Facebook page.

Melanie Yardley posted a photo of baby Darrin on the Facebook page late Sunday night and said, “I’m that mom and those guys were awesome!!! Many thanks and blessings to them all for helping us through it!! Baby and I are doing great!”

Darrin and Melanie Yardley left Cheshire at 12:30 a.m. to go to the hospital but Melaniebegan having contractions quickly, according to NBC Connecticut, and it was hard to sit so she had her husband pull over on the side of I-91 South near Exit 9 and called 911.

When firefighters arrived, they found Melanie “in significant distress” and an AMR ambulance arrived to rush her to the hospital, but it was stuck on the other side of the highway, so they loaded her up into their rescue truck, according to NBC.

Darrin Jr. then made his memorable entrance into the world near Exit 2 on the way to the hospital.
