Firefighters Warn Of Phone Scam In Cheshire

Officials are warning residents about a phone scam involving a group that claims to support firefighters.

CHESHIRE, CT — The Cheshire Volunteer Fire Department is warning residents of a phone scam from a group that claims to support firefighters.

“The call starts with a recorded voice asking if you will take a one question survey,” fire officials wrote in a post on Facebook. “It asks you to press one if you support firefighters. Upon pressing one, you are connected to, what seems like a very good computer recording that is able to reply to your questions. They are looking for donations to a group called the ‘Firefighter Support Group,’ the number they called from is 475-336-6924. Research show us that this a political action group based out of Washington DC.

“This group has NO affiliation with the Cheshire Fire Dept. and is not a charitable organization.

“The Cheshire Fire Dept. does not use phone telemarketing to solicit donations. We will be sending out donation requests within the next few months via mail and online.”
