Former Cheshire Councilman Enters State Senate Race

The former longtime Cheshire Town Council member has announced he will be running the in primary election for the 13th State Senate District

CHESHIRE, CT — Former six-term Cheshire Town Council member Michael Ecke recently announced his intention to challenge the endorsed candidate for the Democratic nomination for the 13th state senate district.

The seat is currently held by Mary Abrams (D-Meriden), who is retiring from the senate. Jan Hochadel, of Meriden, received the party’s nomination at last week’s convention.

Ecke earned the required number of delegates to qualify for the primary, which will be held in August. Anthony Mangiafico, of Middletown, has also announced that he is running for the seat in the primary election.

“I am eager to bring my experience on the Cheshire Town Council and his experience as a financial professional to Hartford,” said Ecke, who lives in Cheshire and is a CPA by profession.

Ecke touted his efforts to “enact Cheshire’s senior tax relief initiative and expansion of the town’s middle school among his accomplishments during his public service,” according to a news release.

“I am fully aware that this will not be an easy primary,” Ecke said. “I have won tough races before, and I intend to win this race and the general in November.”
