Former Cheshire Rabbi Charged with Inappropriate Conduct with Minor in Virginia

The charges stem from alleged incidents that occurred more than 40 years ago.

Eric Silver, who served as rabbi of Temple Beth David in Cheshire for 20 years, was arrested this week for allegedly taking part in sexually-related activity with a minor more than 40 years ago in Norfolk, Virginia, according to the New Haven Register.

The Register reports that Silver, 72, was arrested at his Willow Brook Drive home Monday on an outstanding warrant from the Norfolk commonwealth attorney’s office.

Silver was charged with three counts of indecent liberties with a child in connection with alleged incidents that took place in Virginia between 1968 and 1970, according to the Meriden-Record Journal, which also reported that the case involves one victim.

Silver, who retired from Temple Beth David in 2010, was held overnight and arraigned Tuesday morning in Meriden and is currently being held at the New Haven Correctional Center pending an extradition hearing that is scheduled for Friday in Meriden, according to the Register.
