Funeral Services Announced For Beloved Cheshire Teacher

She was named Cheshire Teacher of the Year in 2011.

CHESHIRE, CT — Funeral services have been announced for beloved Cheshire teacher Megumi Yamamoto, 48, who was found dead last week near her home in Cheshire. Visitation hours will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home in Cheshire with burial on Wednesday morning. Yamamoto was named Cheshire Teacher of the Year in 2011 and a finalist for Connecticut Teacher of the Year.

Police began investigating a report of a missing person last Wednesday night in the area of Mixville Road by Marion Avenue. Yamamoto’s body was found the next day in a wooded area near her home. State Police Central District Major Crimes detectives have taken over the investigation and will work with Cheshire Police and the Office of the State Medical Examiner.

Megumi Yamamoto, 48, of Cheshire, passed away Wednesday, October 3, 2018. She was the wife of Leonard Fritz.

Ms. Yamamoto was born October 25, 1969 in Tokyo, the daughter of the late Haruo Yamamoto of Iizuka, Japan and Andrea Hoslett of Cheshire. She was a longtime Cheshire resident who graduated from Barnard College and furthered her education at Wesleyan University where she obtained her Master’s Degree. She had taught at Albertus Magnus College and was an English teacher at Cheshire High School. In 2011 she was nominated by her peers as the Teacher of the Year.

Besides her husband and her mother, she is survived by her daughter Zoe Yamamoto Fritz; her son Asher Yamamoto Fritz; her sister and brother-in-law Mikayo Yamamoto and Shawn Eliason; her brother-in-law, Arthur Fritz; her sister and brother-in-law, Merrie and Tony Ieraci; her uncle, John Hoslett; her niece and nephews Danielle and Andrew Ieraci and Lloyd Eliason; as well as her aunts Sumie Kumazawa and Kanoko Koga.

Arrangements – Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 S. Main St. Burial will follow in Cheshire Hillside Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Unitarian Universalist Church, 328 Paddock Ave, Meriden, CT 06450 or to the Owatonna Public Library, 105 N Elm Ave, Owatonna, MN 55060 or to an organization of the donor’s choice.
