Hazardous Weather Outlook Issued for Connecticut: UPDATE

A Hazardous Weather Outlook has been issued for all of Connecticut tonight and into Friday morning and it has nothing to do with snow. Yes, it’s still going to snow late Friday and into Saturday morning, but this is all about the bitterly cold temps and sub zero wind chill readings tonight.

For Southern Connecticut, the National Weather Service states that “sub zero wind chills are likely tonight into Friday morning. High temperatures should remain in the 20s...and low temperatures tonight will fall to the single digits and teens.”

A High Wind Warning is also in effect for Southern Connecticut until 6 a.m. as winds will be gusting between 20-30 mph and some gusts up to 60 mph. Some power outages are possible.

In Hartford and Tolland counties another round of snow squalls is possible through midnight, the National Weather Service states. Some of the snow squalls could be heavy and could lead to whiteout conditions.

Also in northern Connecticut, a Wind Chill Advisory is in effect from midnight until 9 a.m. Friday as it may feel like 17 below zero tonight. Frostbite could occur in as little as 30 minutes if you’re not protected from the cold. Also a High Wind Warning remains in effect until 4 a.m. with wind gusts between 20-30 mph and some gusts up to 50-60 mph. The strongest winds are expected between 8 p.m. and 4 a.m. Friday.

And what about that snow, well we’re still going to see some accumulating snow late Friday and early Saturday. It’s not going to be major, but most of the state will see between 2-4 inches and extreme parts of northern Connecticut and Litchfield County could see 4-6 inches.

NBC Connecticut Meteorologist Ryan Hanrahan said, “Here we go again snow on Saturday morning transitions to an icy mix and rain (south). Better by evening!”

WTNH News 8 Meteorologist Gil Simmons wrote, “Brutally cold & windy overnight. Get up a few minutes early to warm the car up & join us on WTNH News 8 starting at 5AM - could be some school delays due to the cold.”
