Cheshire, CT – The Ion Bank Cheshire Half Marathon & 5K is pleased to announce a donation to support the Farmington Canal Rail-to-Trail Association (FCRTTA). FCRTTA is a non-profit organization made up of volunteers from the communities that are connected by the trail. Road Race President, William Costello, and former Cheshire Lions Club President, Peter Remillard, presented the donation to Douglas Noble and John Paturel, Cheshire residents and board members of the FCRTTA. This year the race and its race participants raised over $125,000 for various local organizations.
The Farmington Canal Heritage Greenway covers a route of approximately 84 miles from New Haven, CT to Northampton, MA. Over half has been developed as a paved trail for non-motorized recreation and commuting. The Ion Bank Cheshire Half Marathon course runs over 6 miles along the trail. This section of the race is a favorite among participants for the serene setting with little elevation.

Cheshire Half Marathon and 5K President, William Costello, views the trail as integral part of the event. Costello states, “We’re lucky to have our half marathon course run along the picturesque trail. We are excited to see the completion of the three additional sections of trail connecting Cheshire to Southington moving forward with construction. The race committee is thrilled to be able to support the work of the Farmington Canal Rail- to-Trail Association.”
