Ion Bank Cheshire Half Marathon & 5k Makes Donation to Aid Safety of Farmington Canal Trail
The Ion Bank Cheshire Half Marathon & 5K is pleased to make a $3,000 donation to Cheshire Emergency Management.
Cheshire, CT – The Ion Bank Cheshire Half Marathon & 5K is pleased to make a $3,000 donation to Cheshire Emergency Management. The funds will be used by the Cheshire Police & Fire Departments to provide safety improvements to the Farmington Canal Trail. Cheshire Police Officer Robert Regan, Cheshire Fire Chief Jack Casner and Cheshire Parks & Recreation Director Bob Ceccolini accepted the donation from Race President Bill Costello and Board Member Peter Remillard. This year’s event raised over $100,000 for a number of local charities.
The Farmington Canal Trail covers a route of approximately 84 miles from New Haven, CT to Northampton, MA. Over half of the route has been developed as a paved trail for non-motorized recreation and commuting. The Cheshire Half Marathon course runs over 6 miles along the trail. This section of the race is a favorite among participants for the serene setting with little elevation. Cheshire Half Marathon & 5K President, Bill Costello, views the trail as integral part of the event. Costello states, “We’re lucky to have so much of our half marathon course run along the picturesque trail. We are thrilled to give back to our community by improving the safety of the Farmington Canal Trail.”
