Lawsuit Accuses Former Cheshire Academy Teacher Of Sexual Assault
A former student has filed a federal lawsuit against Cheshire Academy, claiming a teacher sexually assaulted her when she was 12 years old.
CHESHIRE, CT — A former student is suing Cheshire Academy on claims that she was sexually abused and assaulted by a teacher in 2004, according to multiple reports.
FOX 61 reports the former student, who was 12 years old at the time, is seeking more than $75,000 in a federal lawsuit.
The former teacher is identified in the lawsuit as Matthew Nelson, who resigned from Cheshire Academy in 2004, according to FOX 61.

The New Haven Register reports the lawsuit accuses Nelson of having “groomed” the student by keeping her after school in his classroom with the door closed and touching her inappropriately.
Nelson is accused in the lawsuit of “drugging” the student and sexually assaulting her in his hotel room during a field trip in the winter of 2004, according to the Register.

The student’s attorneys said the incident happened during a school-sponsored ski trip in New Hampshire, according to FOX 61.
