Lockdown Lifted at Cheshire Schools After Police Investigated Report of Man with a Gun

Police received a report of an armed man in the area of Horton Avenue but found no threat; schools were locked down as a precaution.

Several Cheshire schools were in lockdown this morning as police investigated a report of a man armed with a gun in the area of Horton Avenue, but that lockdown has been lifted as of about 11 a.m., according to the Cheshire Herald.

The Herald reports that police searched the area and didn’t locate anyone matching the description that was given in the report and there was no threat found.

Police Lt. Brian Pichnarcik told the New Haven Register that police initiated a lockdown of schools in a one-quarter mile area of the report, which included Cheshire Academy, St. Bridget School, Humiston School, Dodd Middle School and Highland School.

Superintendent Greg Florio sent a message to parents that schools were secured and students kept inside after the report of police activity in the area and that the incident was quickly resolved and that schools resumed normal activity, according to the Register.
