Medical Doctors are "Discovering" What Chiropractic Has Always Known

It is always interesting to chiropractors when a member of the traditional medical community asserts truths that support our position on the importance of an unobstructed spine.

Dr. Kenneth Hansraj is an orthopedic and spinal surgeon who has written a book entitled Keys to an Amazing Life: Secrets of the Cervical Spine. In an article for CNN Health, Dr. Hansraj had this to say about the spine in his May 1, 2013 article “Back Pain? 7 Ways to Strengthen Your Spine”: [1] The Nervous System, Circuits of Communication (New York: Torstar Books, 1985) p. 27.

“People tend to forget the spine is part of the central nervous system, along with the brain, and relies on the peripheral nervous system: the millions of nerves that send messages to the brain that control the body's functions. An unhealthy spine interferes with this entire system, causing a host of unwelcome health issues such as pain, numbness, and weakness in the arms and legs, impaired breathing and digestion and impaired control of the bowel and bladder.”

We do not often hear traditional healthcare practitioners admitting the pivotal role of the spine in maintaining overall body health.

While most people come to chiropractors for pain relief, regular chiropractic care can prevent a host of other difficulties, as it optimizes the functioning of the spine and thus the central nervous system and peripheral nervous systems’ transmissions of nerve signals.

After all, the human nervous system is a multi-functional information board for the whole human body. The sending of signals must not be impaired, or the body cannot heal or maintain itself.

Small openings between vertebrae in the spine allow the nerves of the Central Nervous System to branch off, sending signals to the various parts of the body. When each vertebra is aligned properly, nerve fibers and the impulses they carry flow unimpeded back and forth between the brain and the rest of the body.

This system serves as an information highway. Scientists have called it a “great arterial freeway… [that] reaches every extremity of the body, from the tips of the toes and fingers to the top of the scalp, as well as to the central organs of the heart, liver, lungs, and gut.”[1]

Chiropractors are a core part of healthcare, as they optimize the functioning of the very Central Nervous System—Command Central for the health of the body as a whole.
