Press release from Assisted Living Services:

Aug. 4, 2021

According to famous American entrepreneur and Apple Inc co-founder Steve Jobs, “the only way to do great work is to love what you do.” Senior caregiver Marisol Wilks of New Britain has followed this mantra in her career and has recently been rewarded for her exceptional effort by employer Assisted Living Services, Inc. (ALS), a family-owned homecare agency in Connecticut. The employee was selected as the company’s Platinum Caregiver Award winner for the month of April. The ALS team surprised Wilks with the prestigious honor at a client’s home on June 1, 2021. In addition to a check for $5,000, the monthly award includes a beautiful crystal statue and a certificate of merit.

“I am overcome with surprise, happiness and gratitude right now,” said Wilks as she was greeted at the door by her client’s son, Glen Wilks. “Going to work and loving what I do each day is fulfilling enough, but this award is certainly an amazing gift and gives me inspiration to continue my mission of helping seniors everywhere!”

Besides members of Wilks own family, the entire founding family of Assisted Living Services, including Ron, Sharon, Mario and Nick D’Aquila, presented her with the ceremonial check.
Lynne Schmidt, Director of Marketing and Hourly Services for ALS, explained that Wilks earned the prestigious accolade for her strong work ethic, excellent client reviews and willingness to perform each task with an enthusiastic smile.

Specific duties that Wilks currently administers to her 86-year-old client Geraldine Russo of Cromwell include, observation for safety, engaging activities, preparation of meals, escort to appointments, grocery and personal care shopping, companionship and one of Wilks’ favorite responsibilities- taking Russo to church.

We are overjoyed to acknowledge Marisol’s continued dedication to ensuring all of her clients enjoy a clean, safe and loving home environment,” said Mario D’Aquila, MBA and Chief Operating Officer of ALS. “We are always looking to hire homemakers who share the same compassion and commitment.”

D’Aquila notes that ALS created the Platinum Caregiver Award program in 2019 as an employee retention initiative. Homecare Pulse, a third-party survey company that measures customer satisfaction, contacts ALS clients at random to rate the services and quality of care that is being provided. Clients and families can acknowledge caregivers who went “above and beyond” when caring for them or their loved one. The caregiver with the highest quality score earns the prestigious and well-deserved recognition for their outstanding work.
