Pat's mother Margaret grew up in County Cavan, Ireland and immigrated to the U.S as a teenager. She enjoyed passing down stories about Ireland and Pat often shared these stories and others about growing up with her two sisters and many Irish cousins.

Pat's mother was mentioned in the book "The Road to Avondale " by Thomas Briody as an influential person in the author's life. The book gave insight into Pat's mother's life in Ireland. Even during her yearlong battle with cancer, she still always put everyone first and never lost her sense of humor. She was the best mother a person could ask for.
